How much water should a cat consume in a hot climate? My apartment A/C is set at 80. I worry about her.?

This is a serious question. My cat is like my child and dehydration is a very serious concern in a hot climate. I know that people can dehydrate very easily.

How much water should a cat consume in a hot climate? My apartment A/C is set at 80. I worry about her.?
most cats enjoy a warm place,,,80 is not that hot....you should see her drinking several ounces a day....probably more if she eats only dry food
Reply:A cat in any climate should always have fresh water available. During the hot months, be sure to check the bowl often and give her as much as she wants. If you notice that she is consuming significantly less than normal, contact your local vet. Dehydration can set in very quickly in cats. Also, be sure that your cat always has some place cool to go, even in the apartment. (Like a cold tile floor or a dark closet)
Reply:As long as there is always fresh water available it shouldn't be a problem. One average bowl serves my 4 cats for half the day and it's hot where I am.
Reply:my 2 cats drink alot....so id just make sure they have water at all times
Reply:are you worried he/she's drinking too little or too much?

if your cat is drinking a lot, lots more than normal, then take him/her to the vet for a checkup. My 15 yr old started drinking a lot, and the vet diagnosed her as having kidney problems. When they have kidney insufficiency, they drink a lot, and pees more.

If you worry your cat is not drinking enough, then relax. As long as you have a bowl of clean fresh water there, she will drink when she needs to. If you worry the weather's too hot, then put a couple of ice chips in her water bowl, the cool water and the floating ice will entice her to drink.
