2001 Honda Civic A/C stays on when set to defrost?

Is there any way to shut off the A/C on my 2001 Honda Civic when the control is set to defrost or leg/defrost. This is really annoying.

That is ok !
Reply:The wiring is shorted.
Reply:that is normal. ac removes moisture in the air. you can use your ac system in winter with the temp. controls to hot will keep all the windows clear.
Reply:1) Have the car turned off.

2) Turn the "air condition position" knob to the left all the way (counter-clock-wise).

3) Hold the "air-recirculation button" and the "A/C" button "DOWN". (don't touch the "defrost" button)

4) Start the car with the "BUTTONS" held down, and wait for 7 seconds.

5) All done. You can turn the "A/C" off and on now.
Reply:actually the a/c is supposed to run when you have the defrost on..thats what defrosts your windshield.
