How to reset the admin password in Windows XP?
Reply:Do not delete the Guest account. You can turn it off but you don't have the option of deleting it.

Since you are the only user of the computer then the 'true' administrator account is hidden under safe mode. You must have at least one active admin account for your system to function properly.

You can go to the User Accounts in Control Panel and create a new account with admin features. You will still have access to your guest desktop through My Computer where you can transfer your desktop settings over to the new admin account and still use the things you are using now.
Reply:It is a bad idea to run the administrator account all the time - if you get a virus or other "nasty" on the machine, being the administrator opens the machine up to any kind of problem the "nasty" wants to run. Also, if you are the administrator and give the wrong command by mistake (lets say to erase the C: drive) the computer will do it - that is to say you can make some really major errors very easily as the administrator.

You can set up a normal user account and use that for your day to day activities - this gives you some protection from major mistakes while giving you normal user access. And you can run installation programs or run other programs as the administrator if you need to - simply right click on the program and chose run as administrator.

You go into the control panel, click on users, and add users to set up your normal user account.

The guest account has more restrictions on it, so you don't want to use that yourself - have other people who need access to the machine on a temporary basis use the guest account.

If you really must always run as administrator, you can look in the help file to see how to make the administrator the default user. Or, if you have an icon for the administrator when you start up, simply click on it.
Reply:Delete that account and go to create new account in Control Panel.
